Choices...

“Thank you for having our family read the Bible together… I am so excited about the Bible all over again.”  My wife said this to me as we were going to bed the other night and I haven’t forgotten it since. Sometimes its good to have a reminder just how powerful some simple choices have in not only our own life but others too.

We, as a family, are reading through (actually listening) the Bible in chronological order this year. I wasn’t sure how it would go I just knew it was something I wanted to do. After a couple of weeks of doing this the kids started to say things like… “we can’t forget to do the Bible tonight" and Laura found a 6 minute podcast that recaps what we just listened to each day which we all love.

This isn’t a blurb about reading your Bible… this is about the choices you and I have every single day and how those choices affect so many people. If you are a parent this is huge! You have the choice to do so many things and all while your kids and family watch... you have the choice to forgive or give grace or show love or pray and whether you do or don’t do those things it affects those that are watching… they notice and they learn.

You might be thinking how do I even do this it's so overwhelming… I would encourage you to not lean on your own understanding but…. Actually check this verse out…. Proverbs 3:5-6-

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths."

When we are constantly seeking God and committing to being in the Word and trusting Him and asking Him for wisdom (James 1:5) the choices get easier and easier to make and we do them with confidence.

Take some time today and ask God to point out some choices you have made that are unhealthy and need to change. It might not be the easiest thing to do but it will be so worth it.
