See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God… -1 John 3:1

The word “teknon” in the Greek means a child or offspring; one that’s born of another. So, John, is letting us know that we’re offspring of God; we’re born of Him.  Kinda blows your mind!  When you were born again, it wasn’t something “religious” that happened; you came to life as a new creation, born of God: “For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”  - 1 Peter 1:23

Truth be known, people outside the faith – don’t get this. Read 1 John 3:1 (above) again and then the next verse. (2). “…The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.  Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”

“We shall be like Him.”  Actually, I think Scripture lets us know that being like Him is both now and yet to be. This is a present reality. The Bible says as He (Jesus) is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). We have His life, we have His Name, we’re in Him and He’s in us. We’re sons and daughters of God “NOW”, not just when we get to heaven. Take advantage of your connectedness to Him.  You are literally born of God! God is your Father, He owns the world and has made you a joint-heir with Christ.

Now think about this… The Bible says “everyone born of God overcomes the world.” (1 John 5:4) 1 John 4:4 says, “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” “You are of God” simply means that you hail from God; your origin is in Him; you’re born of Him; thus, you’re more than a conqueror; you are an overcomer in this life. So live like it!
