Just A Thought: GLORY!!

We're all pretty glory-hungry.  We want to be important, special, gifted, unique, mature, wise, and well-liked.  We want to be made much of.  We might not want a ton of glory, only enough to make us feel better than the next person.  Oh yea, we have a glory-seeking problem.  And into this glory-seeking world comes a glory-forsaking God.  “And [Mary] gave birth to her firstborn Son and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, … And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." (Luke 2)

Question:  What’s so delightful, about the moment Jesus gave up His glory?  We kinda see His birth as a stepping stone to the greater things Jesus did: His death and resurrection.  Well, it’s not just about having our sins paid for.  Imagine you’re seeking entrance into an organization.  The cost of membership is $1 million.  You don't have a $1 million.  Actually, you currently have a debt of $1 million, but you still need $1 million.  In the same way, salvation doesn't just require the absence of sin, but the presence of perfection.  Jesus said "unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:20)

Jesus came to earn that righteousness for us.  That Infant is the only reason we can be saved.  He didn’t come just to remove our sin, but to earn our righteousness. (Romans 5:19)  The profound significance of this cannot be felt without remembering who this God-Man is.  The Bible tells us Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the radiance of God's glory and the One who upholds all things by the word of His power (Colossians 1:15–17, Hebrews 1:3). Consider the implications of His birth:

Jesus, to whom all things submit, willingly submitted Himself to the limitations of humanity as an embryo in the womb of a teenager.  The One who upholds unseen galaxies, allowed Himself to be nourished in Mary's womb.  The One without beginning, allowed Himself to be born.  Jesus, who knew no moment absent of the honor of heaven, came into a world of no honor.  Jesus, to whom all glory is due, laid aside His glory to descend to the filth of our sin-soaked world.  Jesus, the only person who ought not be humble, humbled Himself as a servant.  Hallelujah!  Glory in the highest!  May our humble Jesus, be greatly exalted this Christmas season.

Mild He lays His glory by, born that man no more may die.
Born to raise the sons of earth; Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing Glory to the newborn King!
