Just A Thought: Leaning on the Great Physician

I want to let you know that we has been in contact with different officials in light of the current crisis caused by the coronavirus.  I believe that we are still in the earlier stages of the crisis in the United States and Michigan, however we need to be diligent in taking precautions and, most of all, praying.

Let me share how I feel about this crisis from a spiritual point of view, which I hope will encourage your hearts at this difficult time.

Biblically, we know there is no hope for humanity outside of the gospel.  Just when the economy, life in general, and even our health was going well…the coronavirus emerges, threatening to cause a catastrophe.  In the past, it was 9/11, terrible hurricanes, wars, and more - we can go on and on.  This world is not safe, and it disappoints.  So often, our well-being and that of our families seems to be outside of our control.  According to the Bible, we live in a dark and sinful world, tainted by the Fall, and will not be fully safe again until Jesus returns to reign as King.  But we also know that our God is in control, and the solution for all that is wrong in this life is still Jesus.  As the writer of Hebrews tell us; “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

Today, as always, we need to trust Him and strive to reach more people for Jesus - not less. The Great Commission is not set aside when society is disrupted.  Rather, we have a greater opportunity to engage with those who do not know the Lord and are frightened by the overpowering tragedies of life.  During 9/11, I noticed that I never had to convince anyone of their need for God.  We might be at the beginning stages of another season of openness.  We need to step up - to do more, not less, and to be like Jesus among those seeking a physician for the soul.  The gospel actually makes more sense when men and women are at a heightened sense of need and in pain.  So, pray - speak to others let them know that the gospel conquers all fears through the power of the Holy Spirit and the presence of the One who is called the Prince of Peace.
