On the rare occasion, like once MAYBE twice a year, my kids do not listen to me… I never have to repeat myself, raise my voice, or get frustrated because they are not listening.  If you have a heartbeat you know that’s totally ridicules!  It’s the exact opposite of what I said.

One of the more frustrating things about parenting or even adulting is when people do not listen.  It’s frustrating because most of the time they do not listen to the things that will help them or because they just want to do it their own way… yes, I’m talking about kids and adults.  Sometimes (ok every time) I want to say… “Why did you even ask if you are not going to listen?”

Laura and I have been talking about this topic of listening lately, especially when it comes to prayer.  I wonder if God ever feels the same way we do…. Why are you asking, why are you talking to Me if you are not even going to listen?  We both feel we need to spend more time when we pray actually listening.  A family friend said to us a while ago…however long you spend praying you should spend the same time listening… I really like that, its practical and it works.

So the question is for you too… are you taking time to listen to God?

I like the way The Message version puts Proverbs 3:6

“Listen for God’s voice in everything you do,

everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track.”

This might surprise you but you do not know everything…

You cannot do it all…

You do not know the future…

BUT God does! 

Can you commit to make time to listen to God and then trust Him enough to do it?
