Just A Thought: If only we were desperate for JESUS

How desperate are you for Jesus?  Really?  In Mark 2 four friends carried their paralytic friend to Christ.  When they got to where Jesus was teaching, they couldn’t get to Him, but they didn’t give up.  How far had they walked?  How tired were they?  I wonder? Apparently, asking people to get out of the way wasn’t working, nor was explaining that their friend was in dire need.  The roof!  Yes, “they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay.” (Mark 2:4)

Now think about it.  I mean, they could have gotten in big trouble.  It wasn’t their home.  Were they willing to pay for the repairs or go to jail if charges were pressed? Yet - they were determined to get to Jesus.  Which begs the question:  Why?

Maybe they’d seen or heard that Jesus healed others.  Or maybe it was a knowing – a deep faith.  Mark 2:5 states, “And when Jesus saw their faith, He said ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’”

Hear me on this, the depth of our faith determines how far are we willing to go to get to Jesus.  Are you desperate for Jesus?  No matter how far we walk, let’s not give up when the doorway is closed, or the crowd is overwhelming - our kids won’t leave us alone, our job is too demanding, or whatever.

Those four friends had faith, and they were willing to stop at nothing…  Do you know who was in that room with Jesus?  “Pharisees and teachers of the law.” (Luke 5:17) People with power and the ability to drag them before the Sanhedrin, but they didn’t care.

They placed their future in the hands of Jesus.  If He was powerful enough to heal their friend, He was powerful enough to protect them.  Or fix the roof.  If God is God (and He is), then we can be sure He’s already taken care of the details.  Jeremiah 32:27 says “Behold, I am the LORD…is anything too hard for Me?”  of course not, so let’s press in to Jesus, daily carrying our fears, our dreams, our kids, and our loved ones before the throne of God.  We can’t give up.  Jeremiah 29:13 says; “You will seek Me and find Me, when you seek Me with all your heart.”  God’s not hiding.  He’s simply waiting for us to seek Him with a heart that is ready to see.  What a beautiful promise! God simply says seek Me!  In other words, be desperate.  Do whatever you have to do to get to Jesus.  Whatever the cost, whatever the sacrifice, Christ is worth every step we take.
