Just A Thought: A Mother's Day Thought

A teacher gave her class of second graders a lesson on the magnet and what it does. The next day in a written test, she included this question: “My full name has six letters. The first one is M. I pick up things. What am I?”
When the test papers were turned in, the teacher was astonished to find that almost 50 percent of the students answered the question with the word “Mother.”
Today is the day when we celebrate one of God’s great gifts to the world: Mothers. While I will be preaching what could not be classified as a Mother’s Day message, I want to include all women under the umbrella of what I am going to say.
Historically, women have been the backbone of the church. The reality that confronts us is that women dominate the ranks of lay leaders in the typical church. I have learned over my years of ministry - that the problem in the church is not strong and gifted women. We need all those we can get, and were it not for them, many churches would have closed long ago. Thank God for strong, gifted women in the church. No, the problem in the church is not strong women, but rather weak men.
Men – we need to step it up and the church needs to find ways to help mom and dad and families spend time together. Both need to exercise their gifts and graces in the church.
Back to women! Proverbs 31:30 says "a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised" so let’s leave it at that! Praise God for women who love God and use their gifts at home at work and in the church.
