Just A Thought: Truth and Love

"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him who is the Head,

that is, Christ."  - EPHESIANS 4:15 NIV

If you want to become fully mature in the Lord, you must learn to love truth. Some have a difficult time facing truth and live in a make-believe world, pretending that certain things aren't happening. But we cannot deny the existence of problems. The evil one is real, life is real, people are real, and pain is real. The good news is that no matter how real our pain, or how big our problems, we can overcome all of them with the Word of God. Here’s a defining thought - “We are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ.” This will take a lifetime, but several questions arise from this scripture.
• How come some Christians don’t think they need to grow? For many – once they know they are a Christian and guaranteed a seat in heaven, they lose interest in the things of God. Christians think they know what they need to know when in fact all they know is the means by which they can learn more.
How are Christians to grow? God has revealed the whole growth process in Ephesians 4:11-13. The church grows as she rightly receives the Word of God.
• What does this growth look like? Christian growth is essentially learning truth based on the commands of Christ and obeying them. Men and women of God are to meditate on truth in the everyday experiences of their lives. Many Christians live aimlessly in this world. They have no goals, and no motivation. Jesus says – there is more for you!
Paul gives the church three areas of concern. She first of all needs to protect herself from false teachings. Instead, we see the church submerged into a glob of the world so that she thinks she needs to be more like the world to be more effective! Secondly, the church is to uncompromisingly speak the truth in love. She must delicately and yet boldly balance both truth and love. Lastly, the church is to have a mindset of growth and on being more and more like Christ. The church today seems to focus on everything else - but she has forgotten her main goal to grow into Christ's likeness.
The solution is simple:   (1) Spit out the world by repenting.

                                    (2) Speak the truth in love.

                                    (3) Keep growing like Christ.

We are not quite done.
