Andy's Thoughts: Summer Focus??

May 25, 2014 0 comments

Whether you believe me or not summer is fast approaching (hopefully sooner than later!).  Summer means a lot of different things to people.  For some it means vacation, day trips, sleep overs, BBQ’s with friends, beach days, camps, VBS P.S.  (I’m pumped about ours July 14-18th), sleeping in and lazy days in the sun. For me the summer is going to be a little crazy with the things we have planned. Maybe for you your summer will not be lazy at all and not slow down for a second. We are so good at filling our schedules with things to do and places to go. Sometimes I think we like to see how much we can pack into a week and still come out alive.
I want to challenge you, no matter what your summer will look like, to keep your focus on Jesus!  I know that’s such a Pastor thing to say…well get over it ! Colossians talks about “fixing our thoughts on things above not just on earthy things”.  It is easy to be overwhelmed with what we have going on in our lives and our kids lives.  But don’t let that control your thoughts, let Jesus and His Word fill your thoughts above everything else!  Let's commit to making Jesus the priority this summer, let's talk about Him wherever we go and whatever we are doing.  One thing I have been learning as a parent is, if it’s not in me it won't be in my kids.  If Jesus is not a priority to me then He will not be a priority to my children.  It’s a spiritual smack in the face! A good smack though. It is time to step it up!  If you cannot be at church have a devotional on the way to wherever you are going, pray together as a family, read the Bible together (I know this is crazy talk).

It is time to start living like someone died for us!
