Laura and I love to watch shows and documentaries together and a couple weeks ago we saw the show “Freak Show.” Maybe you have seen it or heard about it but basically it’s about physically unusual humans, such as those uncommonly large or small, people with other extraordinary diseases and conditions, and
performances that are expected to be shocking to the viewers, like fire and sword swallowing.

The episode Laura and I saw they were putting to death the word “normal” and then showed a guy sticking grossly large needles threw his cheeks and face. It is kind of an interesting show…it’s like watching a train wreck…you can’t look away!

I got to thinking about this show and I actually like the message, I think as Christians we can learn a lot from it. In Romans 12:2 Paul says… “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

We are supposed to be different and stand out! To be like the pattern of this world every single day is to be normal. Lets be Christians who stand out and our different because we are constantly renewing our minds. In the Greek it’s saying that this is a process not a single event in our life. I really do believe it is hard to stand out and act different, talk different and think different than the world.

People will notice something in us and ask questions, which we can then point them to Jesus. But when we act like every other person they see who doesn’t know Jesus, no one will see Jesus in us, we have to stand out.

How are you doing with this? At work…do you just fit in so that no one will notice that inside you love Jesus? At school…. are you laughing at all the jokes every one else laughs at because you don’t want to get made fun of?

Lets trust Jesus more this week and begin the process of acting different! Not so that you get more attention…but so that Jesus gets more attention! Lets get after it!
