Just A Thought: Jesus Is My Forever

[Jesus said,] "For it is my Father's will that all who see His Son and believe in Him should have eternal life.  I will raise them up at the last day."

                                                                                                         - John 6:40 NLT

So often, people picture God as a surly old man looking for people who mess up so He can punish them.  It’s surprising to me how many people look at God in this way.  God's will, however, is that all come to salvation.  Scripture has mentioned that in several places and it is indeed the intent of the entire Gospel (why Jesus came into the world).  God the Father wants all to know Jesus and find salvation in Him.  Jesus is the way to God.  Jesus is the door to a new and lasting life.  Jesus is the focus, the hope, and the life behind God's plan.  I realize that this is not a very popular message today. We live in a 'global village', a multi-faith society where exclusive claims may offend.  Many adherents of other faiths are prepared to recognize Jesus as a great teacher, prophet, leader and reformer - even perhaps as one way to God.  But they would say, it’s arrogant, intolerant and narrow-minded to  suggest He is the only way?  This is especially relevant today as folks of other religions are more and more a part of the culture.

As Christians we are bound to the authority of Scripture as the very Word of God.  We can’t pick and choose what we think is true.  The Word tells us that “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.”  But make no mistake it comes by faith.  As we heard the Word and accept the Word, God gives understanding.  By Scripture, the presence of the Holy Spirit and the verification of its truth in our lives, we know it’s true.

Scripture tells us that to see Jesus as God's Son is the doorway to forever! We receive a life that outlasts history and the assurance that nothing can ever conquer us once we belong to Jesus (Romans 8:31-39)!   He will raise us up in victory.  He is the Alpha and the Omega.  We need to focus on Jesus and trust Him to lead us home.  Our responsibility is to obey, to surrender our heart and to yield ourselves to the will of God.  It is in the process of obedience that we gain understanding.
