One of the many things that my kids have a problem with any time we take a step outside the doors of our house is STARING. Whenever we go somewhere it's like it’s the first time they have seen other human beings.  They have no problem staring at people for minutes at a time… its funny now as a I write this but so awkward when we are in the midst of the stare down. 

It got me thinking about what we spend our time looking at and thinking about. Because the truth is what we look at and focus on is ultimately what we will spend our time thinking about.

 It is so easy to get caught up looking at the craziness of our house and think about how other people never have messes. It is easy to get down when we scroll through Instagram and look at all the people that have it together and our mind wanders down the dark alley where there is no hope. Sometimes we can focus more on things that are not going to satisfy us or are hopeless or are negative than we do on the things that strengthen us and encourage us.

Paul in Colossians 3:2 says… "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things."

I am pretty confident Paul wasn’t talking about the clouds and moon and stars.  I believe Paul is saying we need to think about Jesus and the things He is involved in (check on the verses before and after verse 2 to give some context.) When we focus or set our mind on Jesus there is great Hope for any circumstance. Yes, I did just say any! Earthly things will let us down, and disappoint us and leave us feeling empty. We know Jesus wins! He is crazy about us… He shows us His great love on the cross!

Don’t get caught up in and focusing on the things of earth… set your mind on heavenly things, on Jesus.  Some of us really do need to get our mind right and ask God to help you with this.
